It’s the first Tuesday of the month and you know what that means! It’s #TotallyFreeSVG day! This month our theme is patriotic SVG files plus we’re giving away a Cricut EasyPress so it’s a super exciting month!
Many of you won’t know that I was born and raised in the United States to an American father and a Canadian mother. My parents had two children, my sister and myself. My sister stayed in Washington (where we grew up) but when I was 19 years old I moved to Canada to go to school. When I was 22 I met my husband and ended up staying in Canada. We now have two children who by birth are both Canadian and US citizens.
Each year when the beginning of July rolls around I go through a bit of an internal struggle– Celebrate Canada Day? Celebrate the 4th of July? Celebrate both? I went through the same struggle when I heard that this month’s Totally Free SVG theme was “Patriotic”. Should I make a Canada Day SVG file or a Fourth of July SVG file? I ended up deciding to create files that celebrated both my Canadian side and my American side with these 3 images.

Note: Hearts have a red border around them so that you can see the white parts of the flag against the white background. Actual SVGs are just the heart flags but you could put a heart behind them as a border if you wanted to.
I love how these SVG files turned out. They are so simple but so perfect for how I feel about my mixed heritage. I love the idea of my children and I wearing shirts made with the bottom image on July 1st and July 4th to celebrate the birthdays of both of the amazing countries that I’m so lucky to have citizenship of.
I’m going to be on a camping trip over Canada Day and the Fourth of July this year. My kids gave me a wine tumbler for Christmas and I had been trying for the longest time to come up with the perfect design to cut with my Cricut to put on my cup. I think I found it!
I’ll also be sporting a Canadian flag heart tank top on Canada Day…
And a US flag heart tank top on the Fourth of July.
I think this would also make the cutest little onesie for a baby born with parents from the US and Canada.
There are so many options of what you can do with these designs! Make sure you download them all here right now! (DESIGN FILES ARE FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY. PLEASE CONTACT ME TO PURCHASE A COMMERCIAL LICENSE.)
