Last night I came home, turned on the Christmas tree lights, played some Christmas music and started making dinner, filled with the Christmas spirit. I really love Christmas. It’s definitely my favorite holiday of the year. I can’t believe how quickly it has snuck up on us this year!
It’s day 12 of my Countdown To Christmas. There are just 13 days left until Christmas day, that means that there are 12 shopping days left. We hope your enjoying our Countdown To Christmas posts so far! All of the gifts on my lists are gifts that I would love to give (and receive) so you can feel confident that they are the best of the best.
COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS DAY 12 GIFTS FOR HIM AND HER:
I love discovering local, creative people. When I am passionate about something I love to share it with the world, that’s why I’m so excited to share with you Cocoze coconut fibre flip flops. Cocoze are flip flops with soles made from a mix of coconut fibre and natural rubber and they are oh so comfy.
When buying a pair of Cocoze you can feel confident that you are:
- Doing something good for the person you are buying them for (a comfy pair of shoes that exfoliates their feet).
- Doing something good for the environment (Cocoze are made with environmentally friendly, sustainable and biodegradable materials).
- Doing something good for the world (Cocoze employs Thai workers paying them a premium wage to handcraft the shoes alongside the founders of the company).
The Cocoze Story:
After the Gulf Oil Spill in 2010 the co-founders of Cocoze entered a contest to develop a method of cleaning up the oil spill. Their idea involved using coconut pith as a soaking agent for the oil. In trying to clean up the oil spill, an interest developed in working with coconut fibre. While learning about the properties of coconut fibre, they started exploring it’s different uses including creating household items like dish scrubbies and bath mats.
While living in Nelson, BC, co-founder and president, Pierre Thomson had a light bulb moment and cut coconut fibre in the shape of his feet from one of the mats then attached them to his feet with string. A few weeks later, he made a second pair using duct tape and coconut fibre which he wore regularly while logging and cutting down trees. Originally created and designed for its comfort and natural feel, the shoe over time revealed its ability to exfoliate the dead skin cells from your feet (similar to a pedicure) leaving them smoother and looking beautiful. Also, the high tensile strength of coconut fibre proved extremely durable withstanding the wear and tear in the back woods of British Columbia, Canada where the shoe was born.
With focused inspiration, Pierre began making the Cocoze shoe by hand out of his home in Nelson, BC. In December 2011, the Cocoflop was launched in Vancouver at at a trade show in Vancouver where it was extremely well received. The demand for the shoe prompted the company to build partnerships in Thailand to make the shoe. Production in Thailand allowed for continued improvements in both quality and design as well as cost efficiencies. All of Cocoze shoes still remain hand made today.
I’ll be back tomorrow with Day 14 of my Great Gifts Countdown To Christmas.
Tell me… What shoes do you feel the most comfortable in? Is it a sexy pair of high heels? A comfy pair of runners? Or the laid back summer style of a pair of flip flops?
*A big thank you to Cocoze for sending The Hubs and I a pair of Cocoze each to test out. All thoughts and opinions on this blog are 100% my own. I approached Cocoze to take part in my Holiday Gift Guide because they are gifts that I would love to give (and receive).
