I have been dying to get my hands on a DIY boot socks tutorial before Fall is upon us and I’m in full-blown busy back to school mode again. Even though these boot cuffs aren’t technically “socks” the same ideas apply when it comes to the embellishments she makes to her cuffs. Plus, I kind of like the idea of cuffs over socks as I tend to go through most boot socks pretty quickly and I think the cuffs would last longer and be more comfortable so I’m not always pulling them up.
All you need to make a pair is an old sweater, a pair of scissors, and whatever else you want to add to your boot cuffs. Oh, and did I tell you that these DIY cuffs are a no sew project? Just sniff off the sleeves at a height that works for your leg length and then embellish away or leave them be. Sweet mercy, that was music to my ears! The buttons she adds in the second tutorial are just the most precious things I’ve ever seen and gave me ideas for all sorts of other improvements I could make. I’m obsessed with the idea of adding some big pieces of lace and would love to try putting some pearl buttons on there too. It’s a good thing I just cleaned out all my winter clothes because I have stacks of old sweaters waiting to be repurposed!
If you decide you’re not cut out (get it?) for making your own DIY versions or are so in love with the pictures from the examples that you must have them, you can get them from the talented women at Grace & Lace. Either way, I hope you look forward to greeting the cold again by making or purchasing a pair of these boot cuffs to dress up your boots with something new this year!
