DIY Narwhal Zippered Pouch That Kids Can Color Themselves

Create a sweet little DIY Narwhal Zippered Pouch that the recipient can color in! This thoughtful handmade gift idea takes only minutes to make and is a great present for kids (or adults!) It’s a coloring sheet and a pencil pouch in one!

We’re in the final leg of the race friends! Only 3 days left until Christmas. I have one last craft to share with you before I wish you all “Happy Holidays” and take some much needed time off with my family. Last week I shared with you my DIY Llama Coloring Shirt, and this week I’m sharing with you the DIY Narwhal Zippered Pouch which can be colored in by the recipient!

When I was a kid I collected unicorns. They were just about my favorite thing ever. I loved the bright colors of their mane, how magical they were and the fantasy behind them. I remember hearing about narwhal’s when I was a child and thinking that they too were mythical creatures. It wasn’t until I got a bit older that I realized that they really existed. I think because of this connection with them from my childhood, narwhals have always held a special spot in my heart. They still seem magical to me. I love that narwhals have become popular and that it’s pretty easy to find narwhal items and images out there.

Last week while I was making my llama coloring shirt I saw that there was also a narwhal image (along with a ton of other cute images) in the Makers Gonna Make image set in Cricut Design Space. I’ve had this blank zippered pouch sitting on my craft table for quite awhile and had planned on putting a design on it to give to my daughter for Christmas. I decided that this sweet little bag needed a sweet little narwhal to complete it.

I love, love, love the idea of making things for kids that they can color in. I think that it makes such a fun handmade gift idea. I love the idea of giving them something that you made with love, that they then spend time crafting and putting some of their creativity into. I originally saw the genius idea of creating coloring shirts on Lindsay from The Artsy Fartsy Mama’s blog. You can see her DIY Unicorn Coloring Shirt. here. The idea is just so sweet and simple– take a design you love, a blank piece of clothing or bag, some black vinyl and make your own “coloring sheet”. I love pairing this gift with a cute little tag that says “Color Me In” and a pack of fabric markers (or buy a huge pack of fabric markers like this and give out a few fun colors with each shirt)!

This project is also super quick and easy to make which is a win in my books! Read on for my instructions for how to make a DIY Narwhal Zippered Pouch That Kids Can Color Themselves.

Directions:

Step 1: Open the Narwhal Unicorn Of The Sea design file and size it for the project you are putting it on. Click “Make It” and mirror your image under the cutting mat options on the left hand side of the screen. Place black iron-on on your cutting mat with the shiny side facing down. Cut using your cutting machine.

Step 2: Weed your vinyl removing all of the unwanted iron-on and leaving behind just your llama image.

Step 3: Apply your design to your pouch, using the appropriate heat settings for the type of iron-on you are using and the type of pouch you are applying it to. You can find how hot to heat your EasyPress or iron to and how long to press it for here

Voila! You have an adorable DIY Narwhal Zippered Pouch that kids can color themselves! To color it make sure you put a piece of cardboard inside the pouch, underneath where you are coloring so that the color doesn’t bleed onto the back of the pouch. After coloring allow to dry for 24 hours. Once the color is set the pouch will be machine washable.

Just look how cute it looks colored in!
