Great Cricut Beginner Project- Easy 10 Minute DIY Geometric Heart Shirt

Looking for an easy Cricut beginner project? This 10 minute DIY geometric heart shirt is so cute and simple to make. A perfect first Cricut project or first htv project for those new to the Cricut world!

Hi! My name is Crystal. Some of my favorite things are:

  • Unicorn, sloths and llamas
  • The colors pink and teal
  • Quick and easy crafts
  • My Cricut Maker, my Cricut EasyPress and any other tools that make my crafting life easier
  • Tea (especially chai, teas that you add cream to and fruity teas)
  • Our rescue dog Mochi
  • Things that make me feel nostaligic
  • Comfy clothes that are also cute
  • Anything handmade

Today seemed like a good time to tell you these things, not only as a chance to introduce myself to those of you who I don’t know but also because today’s craft post hits 8 of my 9 favorite things above! You see, earlier this week I was snuggled up in bed with our dog Mochi, enjoying a cup of chai tea and surfing instagram. Up on my feed popped a picture of Mindy Kaling wearing an adorable heart sweatshirt, a pair of jeggings and looking all comfy, cute and cozy. I’ve had a grey hooded sweatshirt in my closet for quite awhile now that I bought with the intention of decorating with my Cricut, but inspiration hadn’t hit me yet of exactly what I wanted to put on it. I wanted something that I could wear to take the kids to school, to the mall or to the craft store that wouldn’t make me look like I had just left the gym… but I also wanted something that I could wear to the gym if I wanted to.

Mindy Kaling looking adorable in a black and red heart sweatshirt

When I saw Mindy’s heart shirt (I call her Mindy because I secretly think that we were BFF’s in a previous lifetime) I decided that a heart was the perfect thing to put on my sweatshirt. I grabbed it out of my closet, took the kids to school, sat down at my computer and saw my to do list that was a mile long and decided that I had exactly 10 minutes to make myself a shirt or it wasn’t going to happen.

I quickly opened Cricut Design Space, intent on finding a geometric heart for my shirt. I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for but found something close and with a bit of slicing was able to make it exactly how I wanted. I pulled out my basket of iron-on, found some pink flocked iron-on that I’d been hoarding (that covers 2 of my favorite things above– Pink and the flocking makes me feel nostalgic… did anyone else have a flocked shirt in elementary school???) I set my iron-on onto the mat, had my Cricut cut it while I heated up my EasyPress, weeded it in 1 minute flat, and pressed it with my EasyPress in less than a minute! I even took videos for Instagram and photos for this post during that time.

I LOVE my new shirt design and even more I love how easy it was to make. This project would make an excellent beginner Cricut project for those new to the Cricut world. Also, because the weeding process of this design is easy and there is no layering involved it would make a great project for those new to using htv or iron-on.
