How The Cricut Maker Will Take Your Sewing To The Next Level + 30 Cricut Sewing Projects

We’re sharing how the Cricut Maker will take your sewing to the next level (want to open an Etsy store anyone???) along with over 30 sewing projects that you can make using your Cricut Maker and it’s rotary blade! Let’s get crafting!

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

I first learned to sew when I was 10 years old. My mom found a beautiful vintage sewing machine for me at a garage sale and it was love at first site. The machine was in disrepair, but my mom could see the diamond in the rough. She sent it to the sewing machine shop that did maintenance on her own sewing machine and I waited anxiously for Christmas morning because that’s when she promised me that it would become mine.

I remember my first (of many) trips to the fabric store with my mom where I got lost in the selection and day dreamed of all of the beautiful things I could make with each bolt that caught my eye. Not too long after I started a sewing class at my local quilt shop where I learned to make a few simple projects.

As much as I loved the process of picking fabric, deciding what I’d make with it, sewing and seeing my finished result there was one thing that I despised– cutting the fabric.

During my teenage years my sewing machine got packed away and I didn’t sew again until almost 20 years later after my daughter was born. When I first pulled out my machine and picked my first project I told myself “Maybe you just hated cutting fabric because you were using scissors. Maybe using a rotary cutter would make you enjoy the process more!” Nope! That was not the case. As hard as I tried I could never cut my pattern pieces exactly right. No two pieces that were supposed to be identical ever turned out that way and the whole time I was cutting all I wanted to do was to get to the good part– The sewing.

In case you’re new to sewing, let me tell you– It’s really, really hard to get nice professional finished results if your fabric isn’t cut nicely. Something else that I learned after talking to a ton of friends who sew, no one ever says that cutting fabric is their favorite part of sewing! No one! You’ll have to tell me if you love cutting fabric for sewing projects because if that’s you, you are a unicorn my friend!

Over the past year and a half I have become a unicorn myself. I can honestly say that cutting fabric for my projects is my FAVORITE part of sewing (well maybe besides seeing the finished results). It’s not because I changed my ways, or suddenly developed mad scissor skills, it’s because I now own a Cricut Maker! I pop my rotary blade into my Maker, load a Cricut Fabric Mat with fabric, press a button and then sit back with a cup of tea and WATCH my Cricut do all the work for me.

Do you sew? If so you need the Cricut Maker! Cricut's new machine is the best thing that has happened in the sewing world in a long time. This article breaks down the many features, shares some awesome Cricut Maker made sewing projects and counts down the many reasons why you need a Cricut Maker in your craft room! The Cricut Maker lets you spend less time doing what you don't like (cutting) and doing more of what you love-- Sewing and making easy, gorgeous projects and handmade gifts!

I get PERFECT, highly professional cutting results every single time and because of that my sewing skills have gone to the next level and my finished projects are beautiful enough that they could be sold in a boutique.

This little machine is fast! The first time I saw it in action I witnessed two sewing experts compete against each other to see who could cut a pattern faster– Someone with a paper pattern or the Cricut Maker. It was no contest! The paper pattern wasn’t even sorted into pieces before the Cricut Maker was done cutting! It will save you so much time, not to mention frustration.

In my opinion the Cricut Maker with the rotary blade is the best thing that happened to sewing since the invention of the sewing machine. People used to sew by hand with a needle and thread, then the sewing machine came around and made the job quicker, easier and with more consistent results every time. The same can be said for the Cricut Maker! Where people used to cut fabric by hand with scissors or with a rotary cutter with a ruler, now the Cricut Maker is there to make the job quicker, easier and with more consistent results every time!

The Cricut Maker Rotary Blade can cuts over 100 types of fabric from quilting cotton, to burlap, to felt, to denim. It even cuts leather! It can also cut through up to 3 pieces of cotton at the same time (for when you have a really big job that requires a ton of pieces to be cut out like a quilt.)

The Cricut Maker Rotary Blade allows sewers and quilters to cut intricate shapes and patterns with accuracy that’s just not not achievable with scissors.

My Cricut Rotary Blade has lasted through countless sewing projects, but when you start to notice uncut threads or when the material settings in Design Space no longer seem accurate, you can quickly and easily replace your rotary blade with a rotary blade replacement kit

I used to think that I’d never be able to use a cutting machine to cut fabric because I’m so picky about design placement on my projects, especially when working with a larger print. If you feel the same way then prepare to have your mind blown with SnapMat! While using your iOS device, lay your fabric on your cutting mat and use the SnapMat function to take a photo of the fabric on your mat. You will then be able to see your fabric and cutting mat in Design Space and you can position your cuts EXACTLY where you want them. So amazing! You can see how I positioned my butterfly cut below. This function is also fabulous for when you are using fabric scraps!
