Sunday morning is Mommy and Bean time. I roll my girl out of bed at 7:30, make her breakfast and then the two of us take off for her gymnastics class. The ride there is usually pretty quite, I sip my tea, we listen to music, Bean watches the scenery go by and the two of us sneak glances at each other in the rear view mirror.
The drive home is a different story. After an hour of running, jumping, tumbling and swinging my 5 year old is hyped up. She is usually a bundle of questions, conversations and giggles.
Yesterday was no exception. As we were driving home my girl said to me “Mommy, lets ask each other questions and then do our best to really think about them and come up with good answers.”
“Sounds good to me,” I said “Do you want to ask the first question?”
“Yes. Why do you think that Shang wants to marry Mulan even though she lied to him?” she asked.
“Hmmm. Good question!” I said “I think that Shang wanted to marry Mulan even though she lied to him because he knew that she lied to protect her family and for the good of her country. He could see that even though she lied that once she was true at heart. What do you think?”
“I think that Shang wanted to marry Mulan because she was so brave and strong. She kicked him in the face, and I know that you aren’t supposed to kick boys in the face, but she did it when they were training and that showed him how strong she was. Next question!”
We continued on like this asking each other questions about Disney characters:
-Why do you think that Belle loved The Beast even though he was so mean?
-Why do you think that Merida didn’t want to marry any of her suitors?
-What do you think it was like for Rapunzel when she came down out of her tower for the first time?
-Why do you think that Ariel didn’t want to live under the sea?
As we asked and answered these questions it re-confirmed to me just how much I love Disney and how many great life lessons can be found in their storylines…
-Always make sure to look deeper into a person to see what lies below the surface
-How important it is to be true at heart
-That we should always listen to what our heart is trying to tell us and stand up for what we believe in.
-That adventure lies around every corner.
Bean has been into Disney movies for as long as I can remember. Her first Disney obsession was for The Lion King a love that she has passed along to her little brother. We were lucky enough to attend Disney On Ice before Christmas and I think this has made Bean even more excited about Disney.
Last week I found out that Disney Live Mickey’s Rockin’ Roadshow is coming to Vancouver. I haven’t told my girl yet but it looks like we are going to get to go. She will be over the moon excited.
Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy set out on a zany road trip where audiences join in and help find the coolest acts around. Along the way, hit a high note with Cinderella; get your bounce on with Tigger; and shout out your loudest “yee-haw” at a hoedown with Woody, Jessie and Buzz Lightyear from Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story! Grab your family for a fun-filled getaway at this live, show-stopping adventure jam-packed with unexpected twists, turns and hijinks.
Will we see you at Disney Live in Vancouver?
Tell me… What is your favorite Disney movie? Have you ever been to a live Disney show?
