The year is 1997. I am a senior in high school. I have my driver’s license and an ugly 1978 4 door Chevy Nova to go with it.
I dream of driving a car that reflects my personality. The Chevy Nova does not reflect my personality. The VW Beetle that just came onto the market in 1997 does! Not only is it adorable, bright and bubbly it also has a flower holder in the dash board. I want a VW Beetle. Alas my part-time job working as a hostess at the restaurant at the country club will not pay for a brand new car.
My mom (Muma) wants a new car too. She is driving an old, grey, Ford Escort Station Wagon. I don’t think that it reflects her personality any more than my Chevy Nova reflects mine.
One day over breakfast Muma and I see that a local heritage society is selling raffle tickets for $100 a piece. The grand prize is a brand new, 1997 VW Beetle. We look at each other and instantly decide that we are each going to contribute $50 towards the ticket and in 2 months we will be the winners of a brand new Beetle.
My mom and I are like a couple of kids, giddy with excitement, as we count out the $100 to the man behind the counter. We go out to the parking lot where the Beetle that we are sure will be ours is parked below a canopy. We press our faces to the window and look at the Gerber Daisy inside the flower holder. We chat about how we will decide who will drive it first (a coin toss), what kind of flowers we will put in the flower holder (we both agree the Gerber daisy looks pretty fantastic) and who our first passengers will be (as long as they are really nice to us my dad and sister).
We did not win… but it’s ok. You win some and you lose some, but the excitement that my mom and I shared for those 2 months, the anticipation, the dreaming, the memories… that will last us a lifetime. And that my friends is almost as good as winning a car… almost.
Why am I telling you this story? Because Kinder Canada has their Crack’n Win contest going on right now!
One more thing, whether you win or lose, the real prize is the memories you are creating with your family with Kinder. You just can’t help getting a smile on your face when you crack into a Kinder Surprise.

Tell me… What is the biggest prize that you have ever won? Has there ever been a prize that you hoped that you would win so much that you lived and breathed it?
